The California Republican Party must transform itself to appeal to the new demographics of the state, said attorney Harmeet Dhillon, who was elected vice-chair of the state party Mar. 3 at its spring convention in Sacramento, Calif.
Dhillon is the first Sikh American and the first woman to be elected to the position. The San Francisco Chronicle dubbed the Indian American attorney a “pioneer,” noting her involvement with the American Civil Liberties Union. Dhillon has taken on several prominent civil rights cases and is currently also the chair of the San Francisco Republican Party.
