Attorney Harmeet Dhillon is an in-demand thought leader, sought out for her opinions on the law as well as on California politics. Here are a few recent headlines on which Attorney Dhillon has commented.
“Abolish ICE” – the Latest Rallying Cry from the Left
Over the last several years, extremists from the American Left have dreamed of one day dismantling the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency—an arm of the Department of Homeland Security that has found itself at the center of recent immigration disputes. But what was once a distant wish has suddenly become a very real political rallying cry—even becoming something of a litmus test for those seeking to prove their liberal bona fides.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that those who’ve fumed at the Trump administration’s border policies and strong stance on illegal immigration are increasingly vocal in their desire to see the federal law enforcement agency shut down. Top presidential contenders have taken up the “Abolish ICE” mantra. Unsurprisingly, some of California’s progressives have followed suit, including Bay Area Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord. “Its original mission was to protect Americans from foreign terrorists,” DeSaulnier notes regarding ICE, “but it’s actually making the general public less safe.” (The Mercury News has a full report of where California pols stand on the ICE issue.)
But talks of abolishing a federal law enforcement agency is a bridge too far, even for California’s most left-leaning. When asked about the Abolish ICE rhetoric of the left’s rising star, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Attorney Harmeet Dhillon just has this to say: “Keep talking, girlfriend.”
What Did We Learn from California June Primaries?
A recent article from The Brookeville Times raises the question: What did we learn from California’s political primaries, held back in June? What do the results tell us about the political landscape, both in California and in the country more broadly?
According to Harmeet Dhillon, the biggest takeaway is simply this: the much-heralded “Blue Wave” may not wash away as much Red as leftists are anticipating.
“Low voter enthusiasm and turnout for the Democratic candidates, coupled with a failure in anticipated Latino turnout to support certain candidates, and high voter dissatisfaction with the gas tax and quality of life concerns in California, led to a good day for Republicans,” Dhillon notes. “Democrats have taken California for granted, and what we learned Tuesday is that this was a mistake, and California will very much be in play in November.”
Brett Kavanaugh and the Future of SCOTUS
As both a leading attorney and a prominent conservative thinker, Harmeet Dhillon has valuable perspectives on all matters SCOTUS-related, including the recent appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the bench.
Before Kavanaugh’s name was even mentioned, the Left was seeking to deny President Trump’s SCOTUS selection outright, deeming it “illegitimate.” Dhillon weighed in on these charges in an appearance on The Ingraham Angle.
“The laws need to be made in Congress, signed into law by the President, and ruled on by the Courts,” Dhillon says. “When you see Cory Booker [saying that] maybe we should just suspend the normal rules and allow this frivolous complaint against the President… we can’t allow that to disrupt the process.”
