The announcement is really a natural expansion of the existing investigation into the FISA warrant irregularities. And so this is well overdue. What we saw there are some rhetorical questions, really. I think it’s evident already from the news reports that have come out that there was spying on the Trump campaign, and this vindicates the president. He’s been gas-lighted by the left.The leftest media and liberal politicians, for the last year and a half, after complaining his campaign was spied upon. Now we see that it is, and the democratic narrative has pivoted to, “Oh, we did spy but it was for the good of the campaign and good of the country.” That’s not good enough. I share the president’s prior concerns that simply an inspector general investigation is not going to be sufficient and we’re only going to have some credibility and finality out of this process if, in fact, people are actually held accountable, and this disgraceful spying on Americans abroad and on a existing presidential campaign never happens again.
Back to the point about whether the inspector general is the correct place for this to begin and end, maybe it’s the correct place to begin, but I will tell you that the rapidity with which the deputy attorney general rapidly agreed to expand this investigation suggests they have already been aware of these facts and irregularities. We already know that Peter Strzok texted to his lover that this whole operation was being directed and run out of the White House. So there are a lot of questions, and, you know, it was interesting when they started this, they probably didn’t think it was going to boomerang back on them, but now I do hope that not just the inspector general, but ultimately prosecutors, follow this scandal and potentially treasonous behavior to its ultimate extreme and then hold people accountable for betraying what our American norms are, with respect to presidential elections.
