Harmeet Dhillon Appears on ‘FOX & Friends First’ To Discuss Trump Tax Returns
According to Dhillon (Video Transcript):
Yes. It has been an exciting day. Well, it was a long hearing, about 2 1/2 hours, Heather. And we had, I was arguing beside other RNC lawyers and lawyers for the president and a couple of other attorneys. So, we went back and forth with the Attorney General and his team and ultimately, we were able to convince the judge that this law, SB 27, was unconstitutional on a number of different grounds and he issued an injunction. That means this law will not go into effect, and not just Donald Trump, but no presidential candidate will be required to release their taxes as a condition of being on the ballot. This is really a victory for the voters and for the First Amendment.
That’s absolutely right. We’ve had one set of qualifications for presidents since the founding of this country and no matter what interest, voyeurism, particular state that doesn’t like Donald Trump or some another candidate might have, they don’t have a right to impose their own criteria. And, if they did that, imagine if we had 50 standards throughout the country, somebody requiring their school cards or their health records or their cholesterol score. It doesn’t work. So, I think the judge made the right decision, unfortunately the state is probably going to appeal it. But we feel pretty good that this is going to stick.
Absolutely. Well, if it is unconstitutional in California, it is unconstitutional everywhere and I hope that this will deter other states from foolishly going down this path because when you have a federal civil rights lawsuit challenging what you’re doing as a state, you may end up paying the attorney’s fees of the RNC, the president and all these people and it is really not very effective. So, I think they should just move on and pick some other battle.
Sure. So, I also got a chance to spend some time with the president on Tuesday. He had a two-days sweep here. He raised $15 million on these two days sweep which is a record, it’s more than any all of the other democratic candidates put together this year and that is on the heels of the RNC raising almost $24 million in August which is a record hall. The president is very popular amongst Republicans in California and we are looking forward to having him on the ballot and to him getting all of the delegates from California in our election in March.
Thank you.
